Overture is in development.
First developed whilst Jo was Resident Director of Lucy Guerin Inc. in 2016, then presented in Dance Massive 2017 as part of the Open Studios program. Jo will continue to develop the work with a CultureLab at Arts House from October - December, 2017 and premiere the work in 2018.
An ancestral pilgrimage in which the body dances into the past.
Overture is not only a name given to a musical composition played at the beginning of an opera or as an independent piece of music, it also means an opening, to uncover, an offer, initiating a move toward negotiations.
When Jo was young she would pretend to interview famous people she would like to meet, this work is an extension of that. A dance that considers the unrequited, the unattainable, an attempt to connect with particular beings of interest/ obsession, including each other. The drive is to reveal the role fabrication plays in our experiences and behaviour with one another, and how this can be challenged in a performance environment.
